Sports is changing rapidly and many are willing and wanting to be apart of the change. The new on-the-rise sport is called esports. Millions of people around the world watch this online as teams kill each other in video games. Here is all you need to know about esports.
Esports is a competition between competitive gamers which attempt to play against another team to go up in ranks until the last team stands. Once a team has won the last match they win a hefty prize noticed by millions around the world. This year it's estimated that 427 million people will be watching esports worldwide. This number has risen in the past years almost exponentially, with the year before being 173 million. These spectators are coming to watch many different types of games from Battle Royale, card collectible, First person shooter (FPS), any game that entices gamers will entice viewers.
The most played esports game in League of Legends (LoL) with approximately 120 million users overall with this number growing more and more due to advertisements that everyone sees on YouTube during the beginning season (RIOT needs to tone down just a bit). LoL spectators will even be more increasing as it is already around 100 million. Currently, the most watched esports are as shown:
From that panorama, we can see that the top most played games in esports is typically CS: GO, LoL, and Dota 2. These games are the infamous games that take time to get good at and you'll need extra time to be professional league ready. To be pro league ready gamers have to train extensively. There are hours and hours of training put in by esports athlete, these athletes typically get tired of their career because the number of hours to put in isn't that satisfying to the body and mind when they get their mid-20's and quite often before then. Esports come with a pretty intense training routine. Sometimes practice can be up to 12 hours a day with a couple of weeks off. Physical fitness is a thing for these athletes but the grinding part of their training is the typing practice they take. Most esports athletes have a program where they have to button mash keys in a series of what can be 1a2a3a and so on.

Many teams get to make millions off of this industry. A perfect team is Team Liquid (okay maybe not perfect) because they invest in the team and in their equipment. Team Liquid, founded in 2000, is a big team with a big future. The team currently has a team for more than 10 games. Team liquid, in some ways, is the most infamous team in esports, they've appeared in a TV series for Amazon and have had other countless exposures to get their name out. This team has an estimated worth of around 200-250 million dollars.

Not all gamers can be an esports athlete, and there's no doubt about it. Many people don't have the time and can't handle the pressure and hours of extensive training regimens. But one thing is for sure: gamers should always strive to be the best they can be. As a gamer, we all should have a favorite esports athlete and team.
